The president of the Uganda Musicians Association (UMA), Cindy Sanyu has attacked the Uganda National Musicians Federation led by Eddy Kenzo. It should be noted that this Federation received over 13 billion shillings from the government to its SACCO.
More money is expected to come in.
Different musicians have been enjoying this money ever since it was released. However, others have decried the situation saying that they didn’t receive even a single penny.
Even attempts to apply for some proved futile. Reports have been suggesting that the Auditor General of government is set to look into this matter over accountability and transparency issues.
According to Cindy Sanyu, she asked for this investigation to be done quickly so that answers are provided. This is because it was announced that the money was for the entire industry.
However, those musicians under her jurisdiction didn’t receive a single coin. She therefore doesn’t understand what it was used for and who it was meant to cater to.
Read her statement below;
“When that money was released, it was announced that it was for the entire music industry. However, it only stopped in Mutundwe and the singers under my jurisdiction didn’t receive even a penny. Therefore, I wonder what the money was for exactly. We want answers because we are also musicians who deserve to get a piece of what comes into the industry. We therefore expect the investigations to provide answers,” she said.
Meanwhile, Eddy Kenzo said that most musicians did not come to the federation to apply for this money. He added that some of those who are criticizing him received the money.
The Big Talent boss said that most musicians now turned into activists and are working to please social media.
