Comedians Fail To Form Federation After Many Fail To Raise 100k

On Friday, a section of Ugandan comedians gathered at Royal Suites in Bugolobi to discuss the possibility of starting a federation. Like Musicians, the comedians wanted to bring up something that could unite all of them and give them a unifying voice.

This would also maybe help them lobby for government funds.

The meeting was called by comedian Alex Muhangi, but things didn’t go as he had planned. Muhangi told comedians that for one to become a member of the federation, he/she must pay 100,000Ugx This didn’t go well with the attendees as they opined that it was too high.

A number of them suggested that the membership fee be reduced to 20,000Ugx. They eventually failed to reach an agreement. The meeting was adjourned without a substantive conclusion.

This whole idea was birthed after the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) was formed earlier this month. Eddy Kenzo, one of the most successful Uganda singers was elected as its president.

Sheebah Karungi, Pallaso and Juliana Kanyomozi took the positions of Vice presidents. Bebe Cool was bestowed upon, the responsibility of being the finance minister.

Many musicians however, have come out to disagree with the leadership of this federation. Among the notable ones are Big Eye, Nubian Li and the whole Firebase crew or rather the Bobi Wine-leaning artistes.

Mosty of them questions Eddy Kenzo’s academic abilities since he dropped out in Primary school.
