Simon Musangala, a city lawyer, has said the computer misuse law is just demonic in nature and out to outcompete the constitution. The lawyer has added his view on the many already about this law.
“This law is demonic in nature and it’s intended to curtail or to be in conflict with the supreme law which is the constitution.”
Simon Musangala says this law is also going to affect how the media operates. So, journalists should get themselves ready for a bumpy ride.
“You no longer have the luxury to publicize a documentary, audio, or video without authorization. But, what is strange is that this Act (Computer Misuse Act) does not provide what information you are supposed to seek permission to publish.”
He says this law too will have an impact on the government because they didn’t sit down to analyze its impacts.
“The government did not envisage the repercussions of this law (Computer Misuse Act) but it’s going to be enormous on not only the private citizenry but also the government.”
This is probably the reason why Museveni forced his son off Twitter. Definitely, the way he tweets in accordance with this law will invite a penalty. Perhaps this is why it’s best for him to stay off Twitter.
A number of Ugandans have come out to criticize this law. They called it a draconian meant to curtail the freedom of speech of Ugandans.
