This is after Entebbe Magistrates Court released criminal summons to the couple to appear before it.
These are expected to defend their customary marriage that happened earlier this month. Apparently, the court sees it as illegal.
Grade one magistrate, Stella Okwang, summoned the couple. The pair is must appear in Court before January 21, 2022, elapses to take a stand against these allegations.
The Magistrate issued these summons after the LC 1 chairperson of Bwerenga confirmed this customary marriage. Controversial city lawyer Male Mabirizi filed the case against these two.
Mabirizi accuses Bugingo of contracting marriage under the customary law yet he is already amarried man to Teddy Naluswa under the marriage act. For Susan Makula, Mabirizi accuses her of introducing a man with knowledge of marriage status to another woman.
Besides, Bugingo’s previous marriage is still valid since they did not dissolve it.
Section 50 states that “Any person who, having contracted marriage under this Act or any modification or reenactment of this Act, during the continuance of that marriage contracts a marriage in accordance with customary law, commits an offense and is liable on conviction to imprisonment for a period not exceeding five years.”
Pastor Bugingo and Teddy tied the knot on the 20th of December, 2003 at Victory Christian Center in Ndeeba. They solemnized this marriage and it still stands. Bugingo is yet to respond to these developments.
