The Inspectorate of Government is the body responsible for ensuring compliance. According to the body, it will be impossible to carry out mandatory activity after August 7, despite disruptions caused by the lockdown.
In that case, officials who have not declared their wealth by midnight of August 7 will be considered to have defaulted.
Since the country is under lockdown, the Inspectorate of Government put in place systems to ensure easy and safe submission of declarations. This will be through the use of the ID online Declaration System (IG-ODS). This will be accessible from the IG website www.igg.go.ug.
According to the law, leaders have to declare their wealth within 3 months of assuming their positions. It also tasks even those that leave office to declare their wealth within 6 months of leaving.
Categories of people supposed to abide by this include all political leaders from sub-county level up to the president.
This directives also includes executive and accounting officers in government ministries, departments, and agencies.
In 2011, former Lubaga South MP John Ken Lukyamuzi saw his way out of Parliament. He apparently had failed to declare his wealth.
