Uwimana, 26 years old, originating from the southern end of the country is now in boot camp along with 20 others. They wait for the Miss Rwanda finale in mid-March.
This is a popular event that happens every year in Rwanda and is eagerly followed on social media.
As for Uwimana’s family, her mother is not surprised by her success so far. Additionally, she apparently said her only daughter out of seven children had always been into fashion.
A spokesperson for the SMEs previous winner said the organizers were proud that Miss Rwanda was more inclusive this year.
Rwanda’s deaf community welcomed Ms. Uwimana’s participation in the beauty pageant contest. Over 33,000 people registered as being deaf during Rwanda’s last census in 2012.
Rwanda has also made sign language an official means of communication in the country. Ms Uwimana also thinks she is the best candidate to win the Miss Rwanda
