Defilement Is Not Only Caused By Men, Simon Musangala On Sexual Abuse

Simon Musangala, founder of Musangala Advocates while commenting about sexual abuse in Uganda said defilement is not only caused by men.

Musangala says there are so many misconceptions regarding sexual abuse in Uganda that people need to be enlightened about.

“Defilement is not only caused by men, this is where the misconception is. Women are defiling our boys but the reporting is so much inclined toward the other gender (women).”

Musangala says since 2001, the cases of sexual abuse have been on the rise. Within half of 2001, he says over 15000 cases had been registered. He says defilers need to be sentenced to death.

“If you defile a person below the age of 12, you are supposed to suffer death. Unfortunately, we’ve had so many people that have been convicted to suffer death but Uganda has not hanged somebody or somebody has not faced murder as envisaged by our courts.”

However, some members of the public have said this death sentence doesn’t affect the offender so it’s not enough. However, a long life sentence in jail would be good.

“The death sentence doesn’t punish the offender; it punishes those who depend on them. A long jail term is more punishing than death. But again, no person has the right to take the life of another. Rightly, the president has refused to sign that death – warrant!” A one Ruhondeza Mwene Busaasi said.

Increased defilement cases in Kalangala

In similar story by NEWSLEXPOINT.com parents at Lutoboka landing site in Kalangala town council recently appealed to security operatives to beef up their protection, especially foot patrols.

The appeal followed an attempt to defile a 13-year-old student on her way home from school. In another allegation last week, an unidentified man tried to chase and defile a girl heading home from school too.
