Different Musicians Reveal The Feeling Of Listening To Their First Hit Song

A number of musicians while appearing on Spark TV revealed the feeling of hearing their first hit song play in the streets.

It’s not a doubt that when you listen or hear yourself being complimented over something that you accomplished, joy really fills you up.

It was no different amongst these artists. Those who made their feelings known included Ykee Benda, Rema Namakula, and Spice Diana.

Ykee Benda said that for his case, it was the remix of his Farma song with Sheebah. That became his breakthrough hit.

He recalls finding the song being played at a music library and camouflaged in to hear it play.

“I remember coming from Nessim’s studio after remixing Farma with Sheebah. I found the song being played at a music library, I told the boda guy to stop and I went to listen to it. It was about one minute and I must have shed tears of joy. Not even the boda guy knew it was me he was carrying,” the singer said.

When it came to Rema Namakula, she almost gave up music due to her outgrowing impatience. She said that she started singing while in school before joining Bebe Cool’s Gagamel.

While in Gagamel, she had to back up singers and almost gave up before Bebe gave her maiden chance. They recorded ‘Cease and Sickle’ which was a smash hit.

“I almost gave up singing because I had waited for so long while backing other musicians. Bebe Cool however invited me to studio and we did Cease and Sickle. One day I was on a boda and heard it play. I stopped the boda guy to listen to it and when I told him it was me he said I must be drunk,” the Clear singer said.

For Spice Diana, her hit song came out when she was in form Six. She recalls that she first heard her song while in class and went crazy.

“I was in form six when my song Onsabula became a hit, I was in class because adjacent to us was a library that used to play music loudly. I just went crazy. And whenever I would walk home and find it playing, I would first stop and listen to it,” the gorgeous singer said.
