However, there were many uncertainties about this relief money yesterday. State Minister for Gender, Charles Engola had said the money should be given out next week. This is because names need verification.
The ministry of gender on Wednesday evening came out and clarified that they will give out the money today.
“The payment of the Covid relief funds will commence tomorrow(today), Thursday, July 8, 2021, as earlier scheduled. We’ve received several clear lists from across the country, the online payment system is up and running, the funds are available, and therefore payment will go on.”
Betty Amongi, Minister of Gender while on NBS morning breeze further assured Ugandans that the money is coming in today.
“I want to assure Ugandans that payment begins today and the Prime Minister will launch this process today at 10: 00 am. We agreed to relax the date of data verification from July 10th not the payment. From today, whatever data has been verified, money will be dispatched. We want a thorough process with accountability.”
Meanwhile, for areas that are still validating their names, the process of giving money is going on even through next week.
“This will be a continuous process through next week. But we will ensure to reach as many people that need the fund as is,” Betty said.
