Mao who was appearing on NBS TV “Frontline” programme lauded local government leaders for baptizing Justice minister Kahinda Otafiire with water from their Namboole stadium meeting over age limit talk.
“Kahinda Otafiire was dispersed,” Mao mused, looking at the fidgeting minister who was present on the show.
“There is some deep seated anger deposited somewhere in people,” Mao stated, explaining that these are not nobodies but elected leaders.
“Otafiire is not elected — so it was an issue of legitimacy,” he pointed out.
“Age limit has polarised this country into two camps, just like any debate; there’s a camp of truth and that of convenience.”
Otafiire responded saying his constituency is in Rwakitura but when opposition strongman, Kizza Besigye, asked for his position, he failed to answer.
“He is a delegate. Many Ugandans right now are playing politics; this is not about calculating anything, it’s about applying rules we have made,” Mao said.
According to Mao, term limits are intended to help a nation identify, nurture and deploy capable leaders.”
He said DP’s ‘Kojikwatako’ [Hands off the constitution] campaign and other campaigns are intended to shake the fence.
