“Don’t engage in bribery or any other corruption tendencies. These spoil the force’s name. Serve the public diligently. I don’t see any reason for you to torture a suspect. This is wrong and should never happen.”
He said this while in Butambala district where he was addressing the local police at the start of his two-day rectification campaign.
The rectification campaign is aimed at going to the ground to speak to police officers in a bid to find out the problems they face while carrying out their duties.
Kulayigye says officers should voice their concerns to him if any. This will help solve cases right away and those that can’t would be forwarded to the top police leadership.
“I am here with officers from the different directorates to listen to your problems and either solve them right away or take them further to the IGP. We want to find out challenges but also where we find that you don’t perform better, we shall tell you to change.”
Since the police want to improve their image in the public eye, this campaign is one of those things they started.
According to Hillary Kulayigye, when the police have a good image in public, it will help them fight crime because they will have the trust of the people.
