However, when it comes to the arts industry, it is simply taking everything away.
Before Dr. Hilderman joined politics, he was a singer for more than fifteen years. When an artiste joins Parliament, his or her fellow musicians expect a lot.
For the time, Dr. Hilderman has been in Parliament, not a lot has been done for the arts industry. There is a struggle to have the copy right law amended. The only people who can help are those that go to Parliament.
Dr. Hilderman tabled the bill some time last year but nothing has been done on it. His fellow musicians are demanding and some even think he is not doing anything about it.
According to the singer, he has done his job and the remaining part is for the government. He said the arts industry has been ignored for so long yet gov’t is busy taking money from it.
Everything is taxed and even the content they create is milked by government.
The MP also said the industry consists of Ugandans and he expects government to protect whatever they have.
“The government is supposed to protect people and their property. However, when it comes to the arts industry, the government simply takes,” he said in an interview.
