At 28, Dr Purity Ngina who was born and raised in Mbiriri village, near Mt Kenya in Nyeri County has never at any one point thought she’d make history becoming the county’s youngest Philosophy Doctor ( PhD ) holder in Bio mathematics.
During the ceremony, Dr Ngina seriously explained the connection between mathematics and HIV, since it was the topic of her PhD theory.
Dr Ngina came from far!
Life is a journey, Dr Ngina recalls the time she used to go to school without shoes in her feet and also collecting water from River Sagara, which is 3km away from their family home.
After a long struggle looking for ways to pay her school fees throughout secondary school, she was able to score B+, and she joined Egerton University where she studied Bachelor of Science in mathematics.
In 2016, the German Academic Exchange Service sponsored her PhD at Strathmore University which she finally joined as an assistant lecturer. Later, she was recognized among the 3 doctorate graduates there.
