East African Heads Of State Set For Meeting Today

East African Heads Of State Set For Meeting Today

The presidents of the East African Community (EAC) are scheduled to meet today for the 19th Extra-Ordinary Summit of the EAC Heads of State. It is scheduled to be conducted virtually today, Tuesday, 29th March 2022 from 11:00am EAS time.

First of all the summit will consider the report of the Council of Ministers on the negotiations of admitting DR Congo to the EAC.

Additionally, for more information, the meeting will stream live on the EAC website www.eac.int alongside other EAC social media channels.

Accordingly, the summit is preceded by the 48th Extra-Ordinary Meeting of the EAC Council of Ministers. This took place on Friday, 25th March, 2022.

However, its intention was to consider the provisional agenda. And also programme of the 19th Extra-Ordinary Summit of the EAC Heads of State on Admission of the Democratic Republic of Congo into the East African Community.

The EAC currently has six member states which include Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi and South Sudan. However, they expect DR Congo to join the block very soon.

President Museveni of Uganda, Kenyatta of Kenya, Suhulu Hassan of Tanzania, Kagame of Rwanda and Kiir of South Sudan are expected to participate in the meeting.
