Ebola Update: Some Isolated Workers To Be Discharged Today

The Ministry of Health will today release some of the 65 health workers that were recently quarantined after exposure to the Ebola virus.

The Health Minister Dr. Jane Aceng confirmed this. The mutated Ebola Sudan strain virus has by far claimed the lives of three health workers including a trainee doctor from Tanzania.

Yesterday, the Ministry of Health discharged a patient after completing her treatment. However, she chose to stay back and take care of her two-year-old child who also contracted the disease.

According to Dr. Aceng, the child’s mother has opted to remain at Madudu Ebola treatment unit after undergoing counseling. Her husband too is still receiving treatment at the facility.

The number of patients that have recovered from Mubende hospital stands at 8 after other four were discharged yesterday. This is the only hope the country has as it continues to grapple with the increasing spread of the disease.

In other Ebola developments, President Museveni has offered Mubende State Lodge to be used as an isolation camp. Hope Nakazibwe, the Mubende district Woman MP confirmed this new development.

At the moment, members of the National Ebola Taskforce have completed a survey of the state lodge grounds. They are now working to assess the possibility of establishing a spacious isolation and treatment unit in Mubende district.

Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, also involved herself in the inspection of the state lodge. It happened at a time the country is experiencing an increased number of infections and deaths.

The health ministry has registered a total 44 cases of Ebola infections and 10 deaths since declaration of the outbreak last month.

President Museveni offered the State Lodge on Nakayima Hill, Mubende municipality, as part of the campaign to fight virus .

As expected, the isolation facility will probably handle both suspected and confirmed cases from the greater Mubende area.
