Music Analysts Eddie Sendi And Jenkins Mukasa Express Support For UMA’s Secret Ballot Voting

Music analysts Jenkins Mukasa and Eddie Sendi have come out to express their support to the Uganda Musicians Association (UMA) for their plan of holding elections by secret ballot.

After the suspension of the virtual election on the 6th of June, UMA resolved to communicate a way forward. And this week they announced that a secret ballot box will go ahead on the 28th of June.

Sendi while speaking said that he’s glad UMA decided to consider this move. This is because the previous virtual election was dubious and few understood it. For Sendi, he preferred lining up in the back but the ballot box will also help in transparency.

“I wanted a vote of lining up in the back but it’s okay, let’s go with what was outlined, the ballot box. They should show the boxes when they are empty, the boxes too and the monitors should be readily available. It should be transparent and clean with no one stealing boxes.

I was happy with the suspension of the virtual election because it technically failed and wasn’t so clear and clean,” Eddie Sendi said.

UMA had revealed that the major reason why they considered a virtual election is because of the convenience it gave. However, Jenkins said that as long as they get a maximum percentage to vote, the rest shall be streamlined with time.

“It’s a reality that the biggest percentage of musicians reside in Kampala. Even those outside who record music usually travel to Kampala. UMA hasn’t yet reached on the level of a national organization. So, we can go with those that can be able to vote. Even when we were voting Museveni, the percentage didn’t reach 50% but we got the number that was able to vote. I appeal to the UMA Electoral chairman Mr Geoffrey Ekongot to be transparent because this is going to set a precedent,” Jenkins said.

They gave contesting musicians the remaining days to the D-day to campaign. They also told them to carry out voter education. The main battle for the presidency is between King Saha and Cindy.
