Ethiopia Dumps Uganda Out Of FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers On Away Goals Rule

Uganda’s journey in the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers came to a dramatic end on Sunday after falling to Ethiopia. Sunday’s game happened to be the return leg of the first qualifying games.

They played out a one all draw at Abebe Bikila Stadium in Addis Ababa, but the result favored the home team, Ethiopia.

In relation to the first leg at St Mary’s stadium in Kitende when Iganda took the lead and failed to maintain it, the same happened yesterday.

Shakira Nyinagahirwa fired Uganda into the lead in the 34th minute. However, Ethiopia fought back through Eyerusalem Wondemu who scored in the 77th minute.

As per the result, Ethiopia advanced to the second round on away goals rule. This is given the fact that the first leg ended in a two-all draw. Ethiopia will consequently face South Africa in the next stage.

Uganda is among the four countries that will take part in this tournament between 25th to 29th March 2022.
