Former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov slammed the players of his former club saying that they were celebrating too much like they had won the league. This followed Erik Ten Hag’s side beating Fulham 1-0 in the season opener.
The Red Devils needed inspiration from new signing Joshua Zirkzee to bag all three pints. The Dutchman leaped onto a low cross from Alejandro Garnacho to slot the ball into the back of the net in the 87th minute.
However, this game could have gone both ways despite United having the best chances. Captain Bruno Fernandes had two clear-cut chances in the first half but failed to bury the ball into the back of the net. Rashfrod, Casemiro, Mason Mount, and Garnacho all came close but in vain.
Fulham’s best chance was from defender Kenny Tete but Onana made a wonderful save. The game looked like it was headed for a goalless draw until Zirkzee proved to be the hero. Berbatov however who was a pundit on SuperSport wasn’t excited with the way his former side played.
The Bulgarian said that the game was so boring and the win was a scrappy one. Instead of celebrating it like they had won the league, they should have gone off the pitch immediately.
“They are celebrating a bit too much. You beat Fulham 1-0. The game was boring as hell in my opinion. Go back inside..” Dimitar Berbatov said.
However, there were some positives for Erik Ten Hag such as new signings Nousair Mazroui, Joshua Zirkzee and Mathijs De Ligt all making their debuts.
Man United will be back in action next weekend with a trip to Brighton. Meanwhile, the EPL resumes today with big guns Liverpool and Arsenal in action against Ipswich Town and Wolves respectively.
