Ex-Minister Nakiwala Begs FUFA To Hand Title To Express FC

The former Express FC chairperson, Florence Nakiwala Kiyinji sent a letter to FUFA recently begging the federation to give the title to the club.

This happened even before the president suspended sports events for the next 42 days. The letter dated June 17, has now leaked out to the media.

Nakiwala who is also ‘FUFA 3rd Vice President in Charge of the League’ cited last season’s scenario being similar to this one. In the previous season, the federation announced Vipers FC champions. This was despite the fact that there were five more games to go.

She said the Covid-19 pandemic has hit every sector across the world so hard. She pointed out how Uganda hasn’t been an exception from this, especially in the sports sector.

What she said in her letter.

‘’In as much as the president in his recent speech approved sports to continue but only under strict guidelines and SOPs, it’s evident across the country especially in the first and second tiers of Uganda’s top-flight league, the fans due to their love to the beautiful game have not adhered to the SOPs making it extremely difficult to continue having league matches under the current circumstances,’’ the letter reads in part.

Vipers FC won the league last season under those same circumstances and with five games to spare. The case is however a little different this time around. There are only four games remaining to end the season.

If the federation cancels the league permanently, they could declare the 6-time champions at the top of the table with 58 points as champions again.

But for now, FUFA has postponed matches for 27 fixtures that were to be played on Saturday and Sunday.
