Express FC, SC Villa Clash For Respite

Express FC and SC Villa have had mixed starters to their Uganda Premier League season. Express, the reigning league champions lost their first two season-opening games. However, they kicked right back by winning two of their own and drawing another.

As for SC Villa, they started out with a 1-0 win over Police FC before Wakiso Giants crashed them in a 3-1 loss.

Apparently, the clash between the two rivals will follow their recent trend of playing for pride rather than gauging their title credentials.

SC Villa go into the game with the more serious challenge of trying to find their footing. This is after Wakiso Giants exposed Petros Koukoura’s youthful charges.

The team is however feeling good after the board named Omar Mandela as the club’s new president. The team had spent the last three years under interim leadership.

Koukoura has, however, been away in Greece and returned on Wednesday. He has remained guarded about his team’s ambition and believes they can still collect a positive result.

“We can put up a good performance that can help us get a favorable result if the boys play with belief. Because we have a relatively young team, we are trying to give them as much confidence as we can,” he stated.

Before yesterday’s matches, the champions were seventh with seven points from five matches.

Express pipped Villa 1-0 at home last season and drew 0-0 in the return leg at Bombo Barracks.
