Five Remanded Over Threatening Air Force Security In Entebbe

Five people have been remanded to prison over allegations of illegal access to Entebbe military base and threatening the air force security.

Among the five arrested is a pilot attached to the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Air Force wing.

The General Court Martial (GCM) remanded to Makindye Military Prison Lt Isaac Makobore. He is a 37-year-old pilot and an officer of the regular forces of UPDF currently attached to Entebbe Air Force wing.

Brig Freeman Robert Mugabe presided over the army court and also remanded four other people to Luzira prison.

These are businessmen Denis Buchanan, John Bosco Nyundo, Godfrey Mukiibi alias Semakula 45, and Patrick Tshimanga 32, a Congolese refugee.

Despite all five suspects denying all allegations against them, they were remanded to Luzira until November 29. They will then return for the mention of their case.

These five had spent close to a month in custody without trial before they appeared before a seven-member panel of the army court.

Regina Nanzala and her prosecution allege that the accused accessed the drone wing at the Air Force Military Base in Entebbe. They say this happened between December 1 and 5 of 2021. She also told court that investigations into the case are still ongoing.

At the time of the arraignment, the accused had a pending application to the Civil Division of the High Court. They had asked to be unconditionally released from custody.

It is alleged that the suspects were arrested by security personnel around October 20 this year. It is also worth noting that they have been in custody for close to a month now without a hearing.
