Paul Mulima, the Principle Uganda Teacher’s College Mbale made this call revealing that institutions will then manage activities better.
He made the call at the opening of the JAB selections for tertiary institutions at Uganda Institute of Communication and Information Technology (UICT). This took place on November 9 in Kampala.
Given the sudden increase in the cost of maintaining students, Mulima said government should increase the funding. The cost of procuring practical requirements is so high and students need them to learn better with practical skills hence the need for more funding.
Esther Ssekasi filled in for the Vice Chancellor of Kyambogo University. She revealed that some institutions will resort to admitting a limited number of students, not to their full capacity due to monetary constraints.
And since the population of students is exponentially increasing, the need for more funding has also gone higher.
The Academic Registrar of the UICT, Agnes Lumala thanked the government for increasing workplace digitization. She also encouraged tutors to get conversant with information and technology skills.
