Karamoja Hunger: Government Sends "Enough" Food Supply

Government Sends “Enough” Food Supply To Karamoja

The government has sent more food to the starving people in Karamoja and claims that is is enough this time around.

The Prime Minister, Robinah Nabbanja made this revelation while launching the Nutrition Situation Report at an event in Kampala.

“We have bought enough food to take to our people of Karamoja, so that our people stop dying. Yes we took some food, it was not enough, but now we have enough stocks,” prime Nabbanja said.

She revealed that she doubts whether another person will die of hunger after providing adequate food aid. She further thanked all development partners who assisted in serving the people of Karamoja.

She also talked about the need for the karamajong to be secure hence the deployment of enough security and food.

“Short-term, we need them to be secure. We are making sure that these warriors this time around do not kill any person. So we have done enough deployment. Then two, we are providing them with enough food,” she revealed.

On the contrary though, Nabbanja said this solution is not sustainable. This is why multiple ministries have joined in to come up with long term solutions to this hunger problem in North-Eastern Uganda.

The National Nitrition Panel survey findings from 2019-2020 found that 1 in 10 children and the 5-year-olds were severely stunted.
