Government Set To Build More Industries To Create More Jobs For Ugandans

The government through state minister for trade, industry, and cooperatives Hon. David Bahati revealed that Uganda’s imports are more compared to exports.

This happened in his Christmas call message during his end of the year, delivered on Thursday evening on various radio stations.

He says that Uganda currently earns five billion dollars from its exports and seven billion dollars from goods imported. He assured Ugandans that once more industries are built, a number of goods will be manufactured in Uganda and citizens will get jobs.

He further stressed that Uganda’s 2022-year strategy is focusing on export promotion.

To give an example, Bahati added that the government is considering a move to build a sub electricity power station supply in the Kigezi sub-region.

This is intended to solve the problem of power blackouts and enable constant power supply and the establishment of industries in the region.

He also noted that 39 percent of families in Uganda grow food crops but save little for sustainability.

The Parish Development Model is a government-run microfinance initiative that seeks to create a shs400 billion fund.

This is set to help local farmers and entrepreneurs to gain access to credit when needed. The government has a proposal to inject UGX 100 million per Parish each year in the Parish Model fund.

The PDM is one of the many programs that the government has designed to achieve the 3rd National Development Plan (2020/21 – 2024/25). The goal is to increase household incomes and improve the quality of the lives of Ugandans.

Hon. David Bahati said with the government considering allocating money for the PDM, poverty will be eradicated in the Kigezi sub-region.
