Hoima City Residents Blame Police For Rising Crime Rates

Residents in the Kibingo ward in Hoima City are blaming police for the high crime rate in the area. According to them, the efforts of the police to fight crime there are very lacking which puts no pressure on the criminals.

The insecurity has apparently gotten out of hand, a situation said to be threatening their lives and businesses.

The locals of Kibingo Lower in Hoima City held a village security meeting to address the insecurity issues. This meeting attracted residents from other cells including Kijonjo and Kibingo upper.

The residents claimed that the youth in the area have gone wild to the extent of waylaying people. They said the security situation in the area is now unbearable and it needs to change.

One resident said the youths have targeted houses and shops for break-ins as well as theft of domestic animals. He said that security organs need to intervene and put an end to this unrest that is on the rise.

Irumba, another resident, noted that thugs are taking all residents’ sources of income leaving them helpless. He attributed this challenge to the increasing number of idle youth in the area.

Nowadays, residents are living in fear of their lives. Moving out of the house at night is also risky since the goons are always patrolling the area. Some residents even speculated that some police officers could be collaborating with the thugs hence the increased crime.

One resident said cameras at his home captured suspects stealing and he took the footage to the police. Suspects ere arrested with the exhibits but later released after three days.

When he went to inquire why the police did this, they told him that they had inadequate evidence to hold the suspects, despite the video proof. This forced the resident to give up and start believing that the police works with these thugs.
