The MP said that these are in poor states ranging from dilapidated structures, lack of medicine and medical officers. According to Ssemujju, they should scrap off the money meant for the renting of offices for presidential advisors.
“Hon. Ssemujju Ibrahim has suggested that the 17.2Bn meant for buying cars for RDCs be transferred to cater for the rehabilitation of general hospitals. He has also suggested that money meant for rent of offices for presidential advisors be scrapped,” the Parliament Watch was quoted as saying in regards to the MP’s recent Parliamentary address.
The outspoken FDC spokesperson also talked about the issue of security in regards to the pending budget reading.
Hon Ssemujju said that as much as all citizens are consumers of security, they shouldn’t turn it into a bottomless pit for the country’s resources.
Ssemujju also said that the Parliament wants to be sure that some top dogs are not misusing security money. He cited an example of funding some General’s birthday parties in this case Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
He cited soldiers from the engineering brigade of the UPDF. These approached MPs and told them that they don’t treat them like scientists yet they are engineers.
“Madam Speaker and Hon. Members, we are consumers of defence and security services but would not like anyone turning this sector into a bottomless pit for our national resources.
Defence must not be turned into a cash cow for some people. We want to be sure that money meant for ordinary soldiers is not the one funding birthday parties for a senior officer.
We have been approached by soldiers from the engineering brigade. Their complaint is that they don’t treat them as other scientists yet some of them are engineers,” Hon. Ssemujju Ibrahim said.
Further, he suggested that they cut UgX 1 trillion from Classified expenditure. They should then allocate this to the construction of decent houses for security officers in UPDF and Police.
