Hon Oboth Oboth Resigns As Minister To run For Speakership Role

It has been confirmed that Hon Oboth Oboth has resigned as State Minister for Defence to run for the speakership role. Hon. Oboth resigned this morning to confirm his interest in the position that is currently vacant due to the death of Oulanyah.

Today, NRM CEC is sitting to decide on who they will endorse as their candidate for the speakership position.

“Today, the NRM EC kick starts the process of getting a flag bearer for the Speakership position. The Speaker of Parliament is where we have a vacancy and not the position of the Deputy Speaker of Parliament. We implement the law as it is,” NRM Electoral Commission Chairperson, Tanga Odoi said.

Meanwhile, though Tang Odoi has told Ministers not to resign, it seems Hon Oboth got the information late. Odoi says Ministers should wait until CEC endorses them.

“For now, no candidate should resign until CEC endorses them. That is the guidance we got. I request NRM members to respect the decision of CEC. Being a Speaker is not a do or die situation.”

So far, there are two names that are being mentioned for this position. Min. Oboth Oboth and Deputy Speaker Anita Among. The chief whip, Thomas Tayebwa has apparently said he is not interested in this position as it was being presumed by so many people.
