Some people around Uganda don’t like and support the festival saying it is not good for the country. This is because once it happens in forests, people tend to do some things that are obscene hence most religious people don’t support it.
Last time the Parliament of Uganda also debated about it but they ended up allowing it to go on as it promotes tourism in Uganda.
This year 2023, Nyege Nyege is set to happen in November. Now muslims have come out to decampaign it saying it should be banned.
According to Hon Rebecca Kadagga, these Muslim leaders trying to stop Nyege Nyege festival should have stopped other events. She is wondering why Muslims haven’t complained about events taking place around Kampala.
The former Speaker of Parliament also branded Muslims trying to get Nyege Nyege festival banned as self-seekers hiding behind religion.
“I wonder why the Muslims have not banned the Blankets and Wine, the battles between the Musicians, the goat races, etc. Why have the Muslims in Kampala not banned the Music and other festivals in Kampala? This is being instigated by self-seekers hiding behind religion,” she tweeted.
