To his disappointment, however, the previously concluded elections have been the most disorganized in history.
“I expected a better election (EALA) to be organized by Parliament. We have never experienced an election like this. The numbers in that election don’t tally. The Speaker at 3:00 pm announced that 495 MPs were to vote. Fifty-seven members of NUP didn’t vote; some MPs were in Harare, others in London.”
Gilbert Agaba also says the ballot paper didn’t have names arranged in alphabetical order as should have been. On top of this, the first nine names that appeared on the paper are the candidates who were declared winners.
According to him, there was a conspiracy because they didn’t even allow them to have their agents around as the whole process was going on.
“I asked why voting (EALA representatives) was going on without our agents present, and I was told to trust the process. There was no voter registrar, and this kind of election has never happened.”
Edgar Tabaro, a lawyer and analyst says Parliament is a theatre of kickboxing and full of jokers.
“We have left the public space to jokers. You have an MP carrying a ballot box during the EALA election. Parliament is a theatre of kickboxing. You saw what happened during the ‘Togikwatako’ saga.”
