“One of the biggest problems is an infrastructural problem. I even commend our drivers in Uganda. They are very brilliant and sharp. It’s a nightmare driving on our roads. I even wonder how people get to sleep while traveling.”
He said this as he commented on the accident that happened yesterday along Kyenjojo road where 20 people lost their lives.
This accident left so many Ugandans in shock. The Lord Mayor conveyed his condolences to the affected families.
“My deepest condolences to the families that lost their lives in the double tragedy of accidents that happened in Kyenjojo and Budaka. For the survivors in the hospital at the moment, we are praying for you.”
However, some members of the public didn’t like the fact that the Lord Mayor came out to blame bad roads in the country.
Some people are casting stones in Lord mayor’s direction
“Really Lord Mayor, let’s be realistic. Even in the city here, we have seen reckless driving everywhere. I don’t know where you are heading to. Because unlike northern Uganda with poor roads, the roads where these accidents have been happening are the best so far. And if you heard eyes witnesses for the incidents of yesterday, it was reckless driving and faults in the vehicles they are driving themselves. Objectivity is key when addressing issues, not only politics,” a one Recho Akello said.
This accident has put the link bus company on the line and even led to it’s suspension until further notice.
