Tanzania President, John Pombe Magufuli, lost his cool on Sunday and labelled some of his ministers as ‘wapumbavu’ (Swahili word for idiots) for failing to oversee the installation of oil flow metres at Dar es Salaam and Tanga ports.

Magufuli was laying the foundation stone for a project to expand a custom bonded oil warehouse for GBP Oil Company when he lashed at ministers for dillydallying on the installation of oil flow meters in Tanga and Dar es Salaam ports.
“Although my words might sound harsh, but sometimes let the truth be told…this isn’t for you minister (industry, trade and investments), but you should send the message to Professor Mbarawa (Makame) (works, transport and communications),” Tanzania’s president is quoted by The Citizen as saying.
“It is almost a year since Prime Minister (Kassim Majaliwa) ordered the installation of flow metres, but nothing has been done so far,” he added.
“When I took over office, I promised to fight corruption and I am suspecting something here (in the installation of flow metres). I just want to warn you that no one will be spared.”
He added: “When I was campaigning I promised to stand by the truth and I will continue to do so…I know there are some people, who are criticising me, but I don’t care.”
He also warned Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (Ewura) officials, who might be delaying the installation of the flow metres.
Earlier in the day, Magufuli directed the ministry of Industry, Trade and Investments to repossess all 197 dormant industries across the country.
