If We Don’t Plan For Ourselves In This Country, We are Finished – Hon. Nandala Mafabi

Hon. Nandala Mafabi has said people in this country should just plan for themselves, otherwise, they are finished. According to him, this country has no economists, and if any, they must have studied in a backward direction.

“In this country, if we don’t plan for ourselves, we are finished. We don’t have planners or economists. If we do, I think they studied economics in a backward direction.”

According to him, this country runs as though it has no policies which have made the citizens slaves in a way.

“You can be a slave in your country because of the policies in place. A good policy must be beneficial to all people in the country. Do we have consumer protection in this country? Not just in schools but also in banks. The interest rate we have is not regulated by the government.

We have many companies enjoying tax exemption. Why can’t the government say, since sugar is manufactured here, it can’t go beyond a specific price?” Mafabi added.

In his view, there is no way the Russia and Ukraine war should affect the economy.

Apparently, the country buys nothing from Russia, so, why should it cause the increase in prices of commodities.

“How does Russia and Ukraine affect us? What do we buy from Russia? We have a problem in this country that needs to be addressed. The raw materials have increased because of the cost of production. Since the cost of production has gone up, the final price also goes up. The government should address the factors leading to a high cost of production.”

Nandala Mafabi says if the president doesn’t address this, it will soon become a security issue. This is because people will be looking for means to access commodities.
