Nambooze, appearing on NBS TV’s Morning Breeze, said after resignation, she will subject herself to a by-election such that she is given fresh mandate.
“If president M7 assents to this bill extending MPs term of office by 2 years, I Betty Nambooze MP Mukono will resign in May 2021,” she said.
Parliament on 20th December 2017 passed the controversial age limit bill 2017.
The Act, apart from lifting the lower and upper presidential age caps and reinstating term limits, also extends the tenure of parliament and local government leaders from five to seven years.
Nambooze said this extension is against the will of her people with whom her contractual obligation stands at five years.
Nambooze predicted that 2018 will see more amendments with anticipation of the land amendment bill seeking to amend article 26 of the constitution for compulsory acquisition of land by government in the offing.
She lashed at the current parliament, of which she is part, saying Ugandans should not expect much from it because the majority of MPs are working under the control of President Museveni.
