The preparations that are already underway at Kololo Independence Grounds will see president-elect Yoweri Kaguta Museveni swear in for the 6th term in office.
This will not be the first time authorities block the internet in Uganda. Security did the same for close to a week in January during the presidential and parliamentary elections.
The security authorities did this to prevent any chaos that they anticipated from the opposition. NUP’s candidate Robert Ssentamu had said that the government planned to rig him.
Now in a tweet, NTV’s investigative journalist Raymond Mujuni has said he has information from reliable sources that the joint security committee is likely to vote for the same.
“The Joint Security Taskforce will likely vote for the switching off of the internet on the swearing-in day of the president. At least two sources who sit on it say.” Mujuni tweeted.
This comes a few hours after security heavily deployed in Magere at Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu’s home.
Police also said that they have information that Bobi Wine plans to illegally swear in himself. Apparently he plans to do that at a certain hotel in Iganga.
They went ahead to warn him and anyone that plans to cause chaos on the swearing-in day. They also said they will deal with them seriously.
