Is Uganda Ready For Another Lockdown?

Now that there are rumors of another lockdown, it is about that time we asked ourselves whether Uganda is ready for another lockdown. The first one we had of course caught us off guard.

No one ever saw it coming. So we were financially drained within the season. Some people didn’t even have savings kept anywhere, they were surviving by the grace of God.

However, can we say that after the first lockdown, Ugandans are ready for another lockdown? Is the government even ready to deal with all the chaos lockdown comes with.

Truth be told, Uganda is just healing from all the crisis that came with lockdown. Financially, emotionally, politically among others. Debts are still being paid up to now to cover up what they spent during the previous wave.

So just in case, there is another lockdown, what next? Things may be worse than they were last time round. This is because some businesses took up loans to get up on their feet and right now they haven’t even started crawling. This means if lockdown happens now, the losses will be unspeakable.

Some experts have given their opinions and say the economic curve needs to be flattened as well.

“I don’t think it will be wise to have another full home confinement. Covid has shown its as contagious economically as it is medically. Since the vaccine is out and most vulnerable people are getting it, we need now to mind about flattening the economic recession curve as well,” Ramathan Ggoobi, an economist and analyst said.

All in all, we are waiting for what today’s meeting will say about all this.
