Though she didn’t bring her papers in person, her Personal Assistant came through with them to express interest on her behalf. However, this morning, she just decided to withdraw from the race.
Currently, 12 names have been forwarded to the NRM CEC to select who the party will be backing up for this sit.
Dr. Tanga Odoi has confirmed that Minister Jane Ruth Aceng has officially withdrawn her expression of interest in the Speakership. 12 names will therefore be forwarded to the Secretary-General, who will then forward them to the party CEC.
It was a shock to many when they learned of her interest in the speakership seat. A number of people criticized her for this saying she should just better her ministry. Could this be the reason she withdrew from the race?
Well, rumor has it that the President already knows who he wants to front so probably she learned it wasn’t her?
Another reason could be that she was afraid of losing her ministerial position because she has to resign her post to run for the speakership.
By the end of today, NRM would have chosen their representative for this position. On Friday, Parliament will be voting their speaker who will take over from Oulanyah’s last months in parliament.
