The territorial Police in Kyotera District is hunting for Jackie Namubiru, a resident of Lwanzi “B” Cell, Mutukula Town Council in Kyotera District, for the alleged poisoning of her co-wife Lydia Nakimera, aged 23.
Mr Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson, said the suspect injected Nakimera with a syringe. This contained what is police suspect to be a poisonous substance on April 20 at around 4 pm.
Ms Nakimera, a salon owner in Kyotera Town, was then rushed to Bulamu Clinic and later transferred to Byansi’s Clinic in Masaka City in critical condition. She later succumbed to the poison on April 23, at around 6:30 pm.
Police authorities have urged the public to desist from acts of violence in relationships.
“We strongly condemn such acts of violence against rivals in relationships. Jealous behaviours can be destructive like in this very aspect, yet the Family Protection Units have mechanisms in place of resolving family disputes,” he said yesterday during the police weekly press conference in Naguru, Kampala.
In a related incident, the police in Ntungamo district last year arrested a woman who allegedly stole her co-wife’s baby. Sylvia Ahimbisibwe, 36, was the culprit and second wife to the father of the baby, Joshua Ahumuza.
Police nabbed Ahimbisibwe from her hideout in Isingiro district after she abandoned the baby in a banana plantation in Ntungamo. She allegedly stole the baby from the maid before abandoning it on the plantation.
The Kigezi Police spokesperson Elly Maate said they recorded a case of child trafficking at Kabale Central Police Station.
Maate also added that the baby went missing from the parents’ home in Kikungiri on Sunday.
According to Maate, Ahimbisibwe is a known businesswoman and resident of Ntungamo district. He said the child was fortunately recovered by a good Samaritan alive and healthy from the banana plantation where it had been dumped.
