Jose Chameleone Says Lukwago Has Done Nothing For Kampala

Kampala’s mayoral aspirant Joseph Mayanja aka Jose Chameleone said the current mayor Erias Lukwago has done nothing for the city. Secondly, he slammed Lukwago saying the lord mayor failed to fix Kampala’s drainage systems leading to flooding in the city.

These remarks were delivered on Friday after two bodies were discovered along the Nakivubo channel at the clock tower. The bodies appeared to have drowned after the heavy downpour in Kampala that caused floods in the area.

Similar to many parts of the country, Kampala experiences floods whenever it rains heavily due to poor drainage systems. Chameleone believes this is a registered failure for the lord mayor Erias Lukwago or even yet, a case of neglect of duty.

Jose Chameleone’s comments

Mayanja, speaking to the media in his office in Kampala said Lukwago is only good at complaining and he executes little action.

‘’There is no country where you will go and find the local government doesn’t work with the government. Lukwago has failed to work with the government. That is why services have not come down to the people,’’ he said.

Mayanja said he will mainly focus on improving the drainage system of the city if he is elected mayor of Kampala come 2021. He said floods are an aftereffect of many years of no work to improve the drainage.
Reports show that since John Ssebaana built the Nakivubo channel, there has not been any major improvement since.

However, Lukwago said the people of Kampala know exactly what he has done for them. This prompted Mayanja to ask him to put his record of work on the table for people affected by floods to see.

Mayanja who is running under the National Unity Platform is, however, yet to pick nomination papers from the Electoral Commission.

Jose Chameleon said he will do this on Monday and meet with his fellow artists on the same day.
