‘’The Judiciary is pushing to better your remuneration. Although we faced a setback from Cabinet, the Chief Justice has written to the President so don’t lose hope,’’ he said.
The PJ made the remarks while he concluded his inspection of courts under the Mukono High Court Circuit. During the three-day inspection, the principal judge received reports of improved service delivery as well as heightened levels of integrity in the courts.
Therefore, he urged staff to keep up the good work and avoid temptations of ‘short termism’ vices such as corruption.
He noted that the administration has not forgotten the staff’s financial constraints. He said they have a new Judiciary where they are supposed to determine their own terms of reference.
The institution has to go through a transitional period following the enactment of the Administration of Judiciary act according to the PJ.
He said in this period, a phased implementation of its provisions will be done. This includes migrating administrative staff from Public Service to the Judiciary Service.
Ms. Sarah Langa, the chief Registrar, on her part appealed to the staff to prepare for a new Judiciary. She also advised them to drop the vices that are obstacles to justice delivery.
She highlighted the setup of Audio-Visual link facilities in all high court circuits and some Chief Magistrate courts. On top of those, she talked about the construction of a Judiciary central archive, and the recruitment of judicial officers among other things.
On the other hand, she decried the practice of some judicial officers who leave cases pending due to promotion.
The principal judge and CR tasked the judicial officers to draft a list of all cases pending judgment. They said culpable officers will be required to deliver the judgments thereof.
