She said she bought this land located in the same area of her residence on 11th November 1992 from the late Steven Kakoza.
Tushemerirwe also said that following the agreement, the late Kakoza requested her to travel with him to Mbarara to process the title.
However, due to old age, she entrusted her nephew Francis Twinomugisha to go with Kakoza.
However, Francis kept on deceiving her that the land title is still in process as time went on. And when she tried to inquire about the whereabouts of the title, the nephew left her home.
Beatrice added that on 13 Feb 2000, she sold the same land to Anthony Muhangi, a businessman in Kabale Municipality.
This transaction happened without a land title because she had been led to believe that the title was still being processed in Mbarara.
To the businessman’s surprise, as he started construction on the land, Francis came claiming ownership of the land. He also immediately asked Anthony to stop the construction.
From this point, Beatrice quickly rushed to Rwakaraba Police post and opened a case against the latter.
Beatrice adds that Francis has been giving her less attention whenever she tries to inquire how far he has gone with the land title.
The area village chairperson, Twinebirungi Clovis, is the one who signed the agreement in which Beatrice sold the land to Muhangi. Twinebirungi said there is no reason why Francis has kept on deceiving the very old woman.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Police spokesperson confirmed the arrest of Twinomugisha Francis and condemned the act.
