Kabale Fatal Accident Claims Police Officer’s Life

A road accident that occurred in Kabale has claimed the life of a police officer attached to Kabale Central Police station.

Elly Maate the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, identified the deceased as Sgt. Turinawe Justus.

Maate said that the accident involved a grader truck registration number LG0001_037 attached to Kabale District Local Government.

He also revealed that the truck driver known as Valence Kyarisima fled the scene and is still on the run.

Maate said the accident happened on Wednesday afternoon at around 1pm at Kabale main roundabout.

From there, they rushed Sgt. Turinawe to Kabale referral hospital. However, upon his arrival there, doctors pronounced him dead.

The police spokesperson also noted that IP Twinobuhamizo OC traffic visited the scene, doctors carried out a postmortem and the body was handed over to relatives for a proper burial.

They parked the MV at CPS Kabale pending IOV inspection. In addition, inquiries are being made to determine the real cause of the accident.

They have therefore registered a case of fatal accident at Kabale Central Police Station under reference number TAR 41/2022.

Police officer’s sentence

Meanwhile, In similar news earlier reported by NEWSLEXPOINT.com, a police officer who ran over his colleagues with a police vehicle had his jail sentence increased from 18 to 30 years for murder. During the incident, he killed one on the spot and left the other severely injured. The Court of Appeal also enhanced a custodial sentence of 12 years. The trial court had imposed against him 15 years for the offence of attempted murder. 

Earlier, high court judge, Wilson Masalu Musene convicted Solomon Nkojjo for murder and attempted murder. He sentenced Nkojjo to 18 years and 12 years’ imprisonment.
