Kalangala RDC Tells Residents To Stay Away From Politics

The Kalangala Resident District Commissioner(RDC) Mr.Daniel Kikoola has flagged-off a number of Civil-Military activities in the District to mark the 40th Tarehe Sita Anniversary.

The RDC told residents of the island to exploit the peace provided by the UPDF for development to take its course rather than waste their time on politics.

He also asked them to jealously guard the prevailing peace and stability they are enjoying. The peace will apparently bring about major infrastructural projects developments like roads and electricity in most remote areas of the Region; thereby transforming their Socio-economic status.

Medical and engineering activities are preceding this year’s Anniversary Celebrations. The anniversary will run under the theme” Celebrating UPDF at 40 years; Fruits of a fulfilled partnership of maintaining and consolidating the peoples’ security, stability and prosperity.”

The UPDF officials present;

The Deputy Chief of Logistics and Engineering Brig Gen. Augustine Kyaze, represented the Chief of Defence Forces(CDF) Gen David Muhoozi. He called upon the population of Kalangala to join the UPDF in celebrating its birthday. He also urged them to embrace the different Tarehe Sita activities for the development of the Region.

While delivering the message from the Chief of Defense Forces, Brig Gen Augustine Kyaze noted that the emergence of UPDF is a fundamental change in the history of Uganda. He added that it’s a noble recognition of the sacrifices made by thousands of gallant men and women both in combat and non-combat. The people that provided enormous support in both human and material resources-many of them paying the ultimate price of shedding their blood.

Why they chose greater Masaka;

The Brig Gen. also said the choice of greater Masaka was based on the historical significance of having been a corridor. He added that it was also the launching base for the liberation struggles against the undemocratic regimes of 1970s/80s.

He said the UPDF, formerly NRA conducted the anti-Amin struggle both in 1972/73 and 1978/79 through the greater Masaka Region.

The UPDF salutes all Ugandans for the unwavering support since the inception days of the struggle to date. Even when it meant paying the ultimate price. The sacrifices have not been in vain.

Maj Gen. Muhoozi who represented the UPDF Chief Political Commissar(CPC) said that the annual and rotational Tarehe Sita activities aim at celebrating the birth of NRA/UPDF. It also acts as a token of appreciation to the civilian community for their role in pacifying Uganda-premised on the UPDF pro-people army ideology.

The RDC of Kalangala then Commissioned the renovation of the Kyamuswa HC IV, construction of a public toilet at Mwena Landing Site. He also commissioned the planting of trees at Kalangala District Headquarter to protect the environment and later generate some income to the local Communities.

The Kalangala District launch was attended by the Commissioner Patriotism -President’s Office Brig Gen Patrick Mwesigye, District Co-ordinator Operation Wealth Creation(OWC) Col Godfrey Lukanga, UPDF Commanders and some Kalangala District leaders.
