The sixth edition of the annual KCCA festival was held from Friday 6,0ctober climaxing on Sunday with a carnival in the city centre.

According to Kayima, despite the event being successful, there were some skirmishes that necessitated police intervention leading to arrest suspects involved.

“Many young people engaged in different criminal activities and were arrested,”Kayima said.

“We have over 180 suspects in various police stations around the city who were engaging in different types of crimes.”

He said that these were engaged in various criminal activities including pickpocketing, thefts and assault among others adding they will be screened to establish  those with cases to answer so their case files can be prepared  for them to  be charged in court.

Kayima revealed that they had recorded sixty cases of missing children during the KCCA carnival on Sunday but said by Monday morning, only six were still at the Kampala Central Police Station.

The police mouthpiece explained that by Sunday evening, only twelve of these had not been recovered.

“By Monday morning, we had recovered six out of the twelve children.”

“The carnival was largely successful and credit goes to security agencies that did everything within their means to ensure people are safe and secure,” he added.

Over fifty   children and eleven adults went missing from parents and relatives and later reunited during last year’s Kampala city   carnival.

This year’s three-day annual city celebration cost Shs 1.31 billion.

It kicked off with a charity concert to raise money for the refurbishment of the ninety seven Kampala Capital City Authority primary schools managed on behalf of the central government.

KCCA projected to collect 289 million that is set to go towards the renovation of the schools.
