Nabbanja made these remarks at a meeting on Friday with the Uganda National Roads Authority as well as Ministry of Works and Transport. They informed her that the working progress now stands at a whopping 74% and is steadily nearing completion.
The Prime Minister said the flyover project will majorly improve the flow of traffic within the capital city. This will consequently increase production time lost during traffic jams.
Ms Allen Kagina, the UNRA executive director told the PM that the contractor assured completion of the project by December 2023. It had been projected to be completed by 2020. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, works were halted due to the prolonged lockdown by the president.
The flyover will mainly focus on traffic entering the city from Entebbe via the old Kampala-Entebbe road. It will also focus on the traffic coming in from Mpigi along the Kampala-Mpigi expressway. This route will be faster and more user-friendly for all points along the Kampala-Jinja highway.
Carbon emissions from congested vehicles in traffic will also be reduced and by pass-through traffic off the city streets, the congestion will be lessened.
