Mr. Wakabi handed over the office on Friday during a function held at the ministry headquarters in Entebbe.
The former PS spoke at the function and hinted at his gains from his reign. By this, he advised Gen.
Kasura-Kyomukama to make use of the relations department to highlight all the achievements accomplished by the ministry. He said that at times, credit is taken by other entities at the expense of the ministry.
‘’If our public relations department does not come up with a proper strategy of making sure these things are known, someone else is going to claim the credit,’’ Wakabi said.
He further requested the new PS to boost the aquaculture sector. He said this is another way of making money as a country and also employ the youths in it.
However, he said his only worry is about the penetration of the mafia on the lake.
He said these engage in illegal activities and may lead to the closure of factories. When he spoke, Gen. Kasura said despite the critical importance of the agricultural sector, it still faces various challenges.
He mentioned some of them to be low productivity while employing large numbers and low market competitiveness for our own products. He also said we over depend on the vagaries of nature for production.
The Maj. Gen. emphasized that he will do his best to solve these, and other unmentioned challenges. He joins the ministry with over 30 years of experience in leadership.
Kasura holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Makerere University in Kampala.
