“Kayunga is not yellow. NRM is trying to force Kayunga to love it, but the people of Kayunga know who they voted for. This all shows that the regime is on its way out. What happened in Kayunga was a sign of desperation. Hon. Kyagulanyi wasn’t allowed to visit the area, but Gen. Museveni was in the area with all the state machinery.”
Rubongoya said much as elections are not going to be of much help in removing Museveni, for them, it’s a mobilization tool.
“Elections might not remove Gen. Museveni from power, but they are an important mobilization tool for us. The Presidential campaigns, for example, allowed us to reach out to the masses, even though it was like a war situation.”
Rubongoya like all NUP members says he is sure they won the election. However, they just didn’t declar them winners. He also added that at least the Kayunga incident is an eye-opener to all those who still believed in the January elections.
“It is one thing to lose an election, and it is another to win and not be declared the winner. What we know is that we won the election, but the votes were rigged. We are happy that those Ugandans who still had doubts in January can now see the type of elections we have in this country.”
NUP yesterday said their way forward is going to court to challenge the EC final results of Kayunga.
