KCCA Starts Hunt For Traders Hiking Prices Of Commodities

Following the President’s warning, KCCA has started a hunt for traders that are hiking the prices of commodities. On Tuesday, the president warned that traders found guilty of hiking prices shall lose their operating licenses.

KCCA released a statement on Thursday morning saying they have started enforcing the President’s directive in Kampala. According to the statement, members of the public are urged to report any trader disobeying the President’s directive.

Prices of home necessities especially foodstuffs have more than doubled since last week. This happened after members of the public were panic shopping to brace for the COVID-19 pandemic. This made traders double the prices of foodstuffs since they were in high demand.

‘’I hear some crooks hiking the prices of food. I will send my spies to the markets and if anybody is found hiking the prices, I will cancel their licenses. You are crooks. What has happened for the prices to go up?’’ the president said on Tuesday.

The KCCA directed it’s statement majorly to traders in both wholesale and retail businesses. It partly said whoever is found guilty of unreasonably and unlawfully hiking prices shall have his license revoked.
As the president referred to them as crooks, he promised to order for the cancellation of their licenses for good.
