President Museveni Suspends Public Transport

Following the Ministry of Health confirmation of five new Covid-19 cases, President Museveni has suspended buses, taxis, and bodabodas among other public means of transport.

The President, however, said that only passenger vehicles are prohibited, meaning that the cargo trucks are allowed to continue operating.

President Museveni also says that bodabodas and other public means may operate if they are making deliveries.

“Instead of carrying people, they can carry goods from markets to other addresses so that we have goods but also safety, the problem is passengers because goods do not breath,” said Mr Museveni.

Mr Museveni also ordered that markets must only sell foodstuffs as opposed to other items like clothes, shoes, and phones, etc.

“I have heard that they have tried to do everything possible to improve but we said to avoid this problem be 4 metres from each other. This is difficult in markets so for now, we do not want to close them but to carry out some changes (only food markets are allowed).”

This comes after the president ordered the closure of bars, schools, churches, cultural and political gatherings.

Meanwhile, the president also ordered government ministries to work out plans to ensure that only essential employees are able to access offices in order to reduce congestion that is a fertile ground for the deady coronavirus.
