Kibaale: 19-year-old Strangles Brother To Death Over 5000 Shillings Debt

The Police in Kibaale district has arrested a man for allegedly killing his 35-year-old brother by strangulation over a Shs5000 debt.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson said the 19-year-old Tyson Atukwase strangled his brother known as Blairs Rumanzi. The continued strangling is believed to have consequently led to Blairs’ death.

‘’It is alleged that last night at around midnight, the two who both stay in their father’s house developed a quarrel. It all started when the deceased demanded for his Shs5000 from the suspect,’’ Maate stated on Wednesday.

Maate also noted that Rumanzi had a panga and that he intended to cut his brother (Atukwase) with it over the debt.

However, Atukwase overpowered his big brother, took his panga away from him, and strangled him to his death.

Police at Kaharo Police station received a tip about the incident and officers visited the scene on Wednesday morning. Thereafter, they went after the suspect who they found in his hideout and arrested him.

A team from Kibaale Police station also visited the scene to carry out their own investigations.

The police surgeon did a postmortem and later handed the body to relatives for burial.
Atukwase now faces murder charges.
