Kikuube District Approves Sh41.5bn Budget For FY 2023/24

The Kikuube District Local Government Council on Wednesday, 30th May 2023, approved the 2023/2024  Shs41.5billion Finacial Year budget.

The Motion for approval of the budget was tabled by the Kikuube District Secretary for Finance, Planning and Investment, Hon Nyakahara Zulia. This was as per section 77 of the Local Government Act Cap.243.

According to the Secretary, the Resource Envelope for FY 2023/2024 mounts to 28.6bn which is a bit lower than the Current year’s 41.5bn. This represents a 31% budget cut.
The budget cut is attributed to the winding up of one of the Mega projects. This is Development Response to Displacement Impact Project (DRDIP) that will be phasing out in December this year.

She further revealed that the locally raised revenue will mount to UShs 1.6b. Wage is projected at Shs 15.5b, Domestic Development will total Shs4.1b and 2.2b for External Financing.

The appropriations also show that the human Capital Development Program in which the Education and Health falls holds the lion’s share. This is followed by Administration and Finance Departments.

Some of the proposed plans for FY 2023/2024 are a continuation of the construction of the district Administration block. Then the Construction of Classroom blocks and the Recruitment of more staff among others.

Peter Banura the District Chairperson disclosed that the district has registered a number of achievements as it strives to be a model District.

They have conducted refresher training for Councillors. The aim is boosting their legislative Capacity and enabling them to have quality debates.

The District Service Commission has successfully filled some of the Critical Positions like the District Health Officer, District Forestry Officer, and the District Natural Resources Officer and the recruitment of additional staff is still ongoing.

The Construction of the Administration block was also launched. This will provide a conducive working environment for the district Staff when complete.
